Taxidermy

The process of taxidermy involves making an animal that has been killed appear to be life like. A hunter may want to hang the head of what they shot as a trophy in their home. Museums like to have their animal displays to appear to be as real as possible, and taxidermy allows it to happen. Many of the top outdoor retail stores including Cabelas and Bass Pro display taxidermy animals as part of their overall décor.

The process of taxidermy is one that requires a great deal of patient. It does take time to complete the process. There are plenty of small details that must be attended to in order to achieve the overall look they are interested in. Some people think that all of the real skin or feathers of an animal are preserved. Horns and antlers that are kept as part of the animal are likely to be real though. In the even that they have been broken or damaged though fake ones may be made to replace the real ones.

This isn’t always the case though but some of them may be. Most of what you see will be artificial though but it depends on the quality of the animal and what it is to be used for. The majority of animals though that are preserved with the taxidermy process though have products that are man made included on them. They are designed though so most people will never be able to know the difference. Only those skilled in the area of taxidermy would be able to really discover what has taken place.

All of the internal parts of the animals have to be removed for the taxidermy process. This is often the part of it that most people aren’t comfortable with. A special type of foam is used to fill up the animal again and give it the right shape. The facial features are made from various types of clay and wax. Those eyes steering back at you from taxidermy deer aren’t really the ones the animal had when it was alive.

Some people have even approached a taxidermist to see if they will complete the process on pets. They may want to preserve their dog, cat, or even a horse in this manner. Some taxidermists are willing to do it while others aren’t. Chances are you have a couple of taxidermists in your area that can help you get the results you are looking for with any animal though.
